Firebirds Announce 2010 Schedule
February 15, 2010
By Tyler Maland
Orleans, Mass.
- The Orleans Firebirds have announced their 44-game schedule for the summer 2010 season. The Firebirds open up on the road on June 14th against Hyannis, with the home opener coming June 15th against Brewster at 7:00 pm. Orleans finished second in the Eastern Division last summer at 25-17-2.
The Firebirds will wait two weeks before renewing their East-West rivalry with the Bourne Braves with a double header at Orleans' Eldridge Park on June 27th. Orleans went 4-0 against the Braves in the regular season last year, but fell to Bourne 2-0 in their best-of-three second-round playoff series. Bourne went on to sweep the Cotuit Kettleers for the Cape League Championship, making it the second straight year that Orleans bowed out in the playoffs to the eventual champion.
Another highlight of the 2010 Firebirds season will be the annual 4th of July game against Route 28 rival Chatham Anglers. Orleans will host this year's matchup at 7:00 pm, and will play at Chatham the following night. Orleans and Chatham will also close out the regular season with back-to-back games, the first at Orleans August 3rd and the second at Chatham August 4th. The Firebirds won four of the six match-ups last season, including the last two of the regular season, and also defeated the Anglers in the opening round of the playoffs.
All home games will be at Eldridge park at 7:00 pm. The entire schedule can be found on the Firebirds' homepage.
